Join St. Brendan’s as we remember and pray for those who serve at sea. Sea Sunday, which is officially held on the second Sunday in July, is the day which many Christian Churches set aside to remember and pray for seafarers and their families and give thanks for their lives and work.
“An estimated 1.89 million seafarers work on 74,000 cargo and cruise ships around the world. Cargo ships transport close to 90% of the goods we consume. A third of these are bulk carriers carrying items like grain, coal, ore, steel coils, cement. A quarter are tankers carrying everything from oil to orange juice. Seventeen percent are container ships (with the largest ship carrying 25,000 containers). The remainder are both miscellaneous cargo ships (like chemical tankers and car carriers) and cruise ships. Over a third of seafarers are Filipino. Another third come from China, India, Russia, Ukraine, Greece combined.
